Geely remains leader of car sales in Belarus in January 2023

According to the Belarusian Automobile Association (BAA), sales of passenger cars in our country in January 2023 amounted to 756 vehicles – 46 percent less than in December 2022. Geely remains the leader of sales since June last year (543 vehicles of this brand were sold in January), followed by LADA and Chinese brand JAC.

In January 2023, the Belarusian automobile market continued to fall. Sales of new passenger cars sold by BAA dealers decreased by 67 percent compared to January 2022, said Sergei Varivoda, the Chairman of the Belarusian Automobile Association’s Board.

Domestically-produced Geely cars account for 72 percent. There are eleven brands left on the Belarusian market selling 34 models, which is 4 times less than a year ago. Moreover, 14 out of 34 models are Chinese brands, and the total share of Chinese passenger cars sold in January amounted to 78 percent.

Official car dealers are still confronted by the ‘unorganised’ – with the use of incentives – market for the importation of cars by individuals. This prevents new Chinese, Iranian and other automakers from entering the dealer market due to the lack of a favourable competitive environment.
