From chocolate to spacecraft

The 5th China International Import Expo was held in Shanghai with great success, where Belarusian products were also presented

Chinese President Xi Jinping announced the initiative to hold the China International Import Expo at the Belt and Road Forum for International Co-operation in Beijing in 2017. The 2022 exhibition was attended by 145 countries, regions and international organisations.
Belarus has been a participant of the China International Import Expo in Shanghai since the first days of its creation, annually presenting its key achievements and developments at its site. This year Belarusians presented products and services of 27 food industry, logistics, science and education organisations. The pavilion of our country consisted of two main sections: one was dedicated to agriculture and food, the other was dedicated to high-tech equipment and information technology.
Chinese guests and exhibitors were able to experience Belarusian chocolate, milk, cheeses, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, rapeseed oil and much more. The high-tech equipment and information technology sector has demonstrated scientific achievements: from ultra-small orbital spacecraft to high-nutrition bread. Everything is exclusively of Belarusian production.
In addition, Belarus presented its virtual pavilion. It reflected achievements in industry, scientific and technical innovations, tourism and cultural potential of our country.
Within the framework of the exhibition, several hundred related business events took place: seminars, conferences, B2B events that provide participants with an additional opportunity to establish business contacts. This year, the ‘Belarus-China: Trade and Economic Relations, Prospects for Co-operation, Investment Potential’ business forum, the forum of industry exhibitors of Belarus, the ‘Engineering and Petrochemistry of the Republic of Belarus’, the ‘Service Sector of the Republic of Belarus: Transport and Logistics, Education, Financial Sector’ and ‘Food and Agricultural Products of the Republic of Belarus’ seminars have attracted a lot of attention from a broad audience.

Respectful partnership, effective international co-ordination

Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed that today the China International Import Expo is one of the highlights of the calendar of economic events and one of the most popular interaction formats.
“I am glad that this event resumed after two years of a forced pause. We are going to make up for the deficit in communication, we are ready to share our best practices, showcase our solutions and achievements in a number of areas. The global socio-economic crisis caused by the pandemic and the intensification of geopolitical confrontation has made it clear that we need effective international co-ordination, equal and respectful partnerships,” said the President of Belarus.
According to the President, being an important part of the Eurasian space, Belarus was at ground zero of the Eurasian Economic Union. We pay special attention to projects within the framework of China’s Belt and Road Initiative, the most significant of which is the China-Belarus Great Stone Industrial Park located in our country.
“Belarus stands ready to expand joint efforts in terms of supply of high-quality products and implementation of new projects in e-commerce. We are committed to continuing close co-operation with all interested parties to diversify regular transit routes and introduce innovative logistics approaches. Our participation in the 2022 expo takes place at the beginning of a new stage in the development of Belarus-China co-operation. Being reliable and proven allies, ‘iron brothers’, we work effectively advancing co-operation, innovation and logistics,” said the Head of State.
As the President emphasised, this year, two dozen well-known Belarusian manufacturers participated in the Shanghai expo and presented advanced developments in the production of high-tech equipment, information technology and medicine. Among them are the ultra-small orbital spacecraft, a series of cancer drugs, Belarusian electric scooters and much more.
The stand of the Great Stone Industrial Park deserves special attention. It presented the achievements and developments of its resident companies, which clearly demonstrates the investment potential of the park.
“Our country with centuries-old agricultural traditions is one of the world’s top exporters of dairy products and potash fertilisers, making a significant contribution to global food security… I am convinced that the China International Import Expo in Shanghai will give a powerful impetus to the expansion of international economic and technological co-operation,” said Aleksandr Lukashenko.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Belarus Xie Xiaoyung,
“China International Import Expo is an important strategic event for China to implement our fundamental national policy of openness to the outside world. China welcomes all enterprises from all countries, including Belarus, offering to invest in our country, as well as share new development opportunities with us. We are grateful to President Aleksandr Lukashenko for kindly accepting our President Xi Jinping’s invitation to deliver a speech at the EXPO opening ceremony... I know your President well as a bright supporter of open, free, fair international trade and as a super-agitator of Belarusian products. Belarus successfully presented its national pavilion at the exhibition. I would also like to remind you that in July this year, the Belarusian national pavilion was organised on two very well-known e-commerce platforms in China. Thus, Belarusian products have entered into a closer relationship with consumers, in a modern and popular way. With this in mind, the scale of trade between us will only expand. This year, the trade turnover between our countries has increased by 25.8 percent. Moreover, Belarus’ exports to China increased by 68.6 percent compared to the same period last year. It is safe to say that this year the indicators of trade and economic co-operation will be record-breaking.”
