First submarine with tactical nuclear weapons launched in DPRK
The submarine was demonstrated in a solemn atmosphere ahead of the country’s founding anniversary, and President of the DPRK, Kim Jong Un, attended the ceremony, TASS reports
The new submarine is the first in North Korea to be equipped with tactical nuclear weapons. It is now undergoing a stage of preparation for going to sea for a test voyage.
During his speech, Kim Jong Un said that he is confident that nuclear weapons are a significant part of the military-technical equipment of the naval force, “We are determined to continue demonstrating the modernity of our underwater and surface combat capabilities and will accelerate the nuclear armament of our fleet.”
In addition, he noted that North Korea plans to improve heavy submarines equipping them with the same tactical nuclear weapons as the new submarine has.
