The FAO Director-General highly appreciated the meeting with the President of Belarus, emphasising that Aleksandr Lukashenko is a strong leader, which is confirmed by the prosperity of Belarus.

Qu Dongyu also noted the republic’s unique position on a number of issues, “Belarus is able to provide food not only to meet its domestic needs, but also to other countries, thus making a huge contribution to food security around the world. This is a unique position that we greatly value at FAO. Moreover, Belarus ranks third in the world in the export of potash fertilisers (behind Canada and Russia), which is very impressive.”

The parties also discussed co-operation between Belarus’ Agriculture and Food Ministry and the Food and Agriculture Organisation. “We discussed how to enhance these liaisons, as it is very important for us. Belarus is an example of balance in everything: politics, stability, environmental protection, and much more. It has a huge potential, and it’s of special importance as well. In the future, the country has the opportunity to provide up to 100 million people with food. It’s very valuable,” Qu Dongyu said.
