Opinion: transformation of global system of relationships should be smooth
Today there is a transformation of the world system of relationships. Candidate of Historical Sciences Olga Lazorkina, an analyst at the Belarusian Institute of Strategic Research (BISR), told us how long this process can take and when all the world’s political and economic systems will be involved in ceaseless turbulence.
“When we talk about transformation, we mean, of course, a long-term period, covering decades. History shows that such a process, as a rule, does not fit within five or even ten years. Are countries ready for this process? Now we can only say that the process of rethinking the processes that functioned in the international system before has been launched. Many of them have completely outlived their usefulness. However, transformation does not mean that we must give up everything; there’re segments that must be preserved, forming the basis of a new world order. First of all, this is the UN system, which also needs modernisation, but is very valuable for its achievements in the most difficult periods of global history. It doesn’t refer to a revolutionary breakdown, but to a smooth transition of the world community to a new state – this is the main thing that needs to be understood on this path,” the expert believes.
