Belarusian farmers have threshed 1 million 220 thousand tonnes of grain. The average yield is 41.6 centners per hectare, which is 1.8 more than during the same period last year. Grain and leguminous crops (excluding corn, buckwheat and millet) were harvested from 15 percent of the area, or 294 thousand hectares of the total of 2 million 2 thousand hectares. In his talk with SB TV and Alfa Radio, Candidate of Historical Sciences Aleksei Belyaev explained what these figures are based on.
As noted by the expert, the state – in the person of the President and all administrative bodies – ensures the most serious control over the harvesting campaign, and this trend is observed every year. Mr. Belyaev explained that the monitoring process covers all key stages: the sowing and harvesting campaigns, as well as processing and storing of agricultural products.
“Why is this so important? It is primarily the basis of the country's food security, which is one of the most vital priorities. After all, food is a basic human need. Today, we are witnessing an extremely unfair distribution of food in the world, and there are regions and even continents where people are suffering from hunger. About 10 percent of the world's population face a daily shortage of food or are in a state of hunger. Therefore, it is fundamentally important for us to provide the Belarusian society with food,” he said.
The Belarusian leader’s constant attention to these processes is a natural and necessary measure, and Mr. Belyaev explained, “Unlike some Western leaders who spend time at international conferences or throw away money on creating military threats, our President is focused on practical work. His efforts are aimed at controlling an area of enormous importance for the entire Belarusian society and the state both now and in the long term. In addition, food is a significant resource from the point of view of international trade. Belarusian food occupies a significant place in the global system. The agricultural sector brings in significant revenue, and thanks to this, the country is not only able to fully meet its own needs, but also participate in the supply of other countries, while making a good profit.”
With this in mind, special attention is paid to the real sector of the economy in Belarus and, first of all, to its agricultural sector, where it is critically important to maintain order. “It is the President's focus on maintaining this order that allows us not to limit ourselves to routine, repetitive actions from year to year, but to achieve real growth. We see an increase in yields, which have already exceeded last year's figures in many respects. It’s an excellent result, since the already existing production facilities have been used to achieve this increase: this means, the same fields, the same acreage have produced such yields,” the expert noted, adding that this indicates an increase in work efficiency, including during the harvesting campaign.
Mr. Belyaev emphasised that the effectiveness of the sowing campaign had been enhanced as well under the supervision of the Head of State: new fertilisation schemes and the National Academy of Sciences developments in cultivating promising grain varieties were introduced, and more advanced and efficient harvesting equipment – making it possible to saves resource and minimises grain losses – were used. All this produces a noticeable economic effect.
