In his talk with SB TV and Alfa Radio, political expert Yuri Shevtsov commented on the specifics of the Belarusian approach in co-operation with African countries
As reported, the countries of the African Union are planning to file a lawsuit with the International Court of Justice, demanding that a number of European countries pay reparations for the slave-owning era. When discussing the attitude of the former colonial powers towards Africa, it was noted during the conversation that Belarus demonstrates a completely different approach. “Russia and Belarus do not bear the stigma of former colonial activities in Africa. The colonisation of Africa was a brutal process, and that’s not a joke at all. African countries remember this well. Therefore, Belarus’ coming to Africa is the arrival of a completely different moral and ideological force from Europe than Europe itself. We come there with an offer of specific production solutions,” Mr. Shevtsov said.
The expert stressed that, by coming to Africa, Belarus offers the countries there to solve problems that are relevant to them. “We are successfully developing relations in Africa mainly with the states, where politicians who are close to Belarusians in spirit are in power. They are trying to develop their countries. We offer them tractors, potash, and everything related to production itself. We bring to Africa what the former colonial countries do not spread much," Mr. Shevtsov added.
