On behalf of the Republic of Belarus, President Aleksandr Lukashenko signed a document on the republic’s accession to the Board of Peace and the implementation of the provisions of its Charter. In his talk with SB TV and Alfa Radio, political expert Yuri Shevtsov explained what these steps mean for Belarus.
In his opinion, the main advantage of the country's accession to the Board of Peace is that Belarus has achieved success in the western direction. “The main result is a breakthrough of the tough diplomatic and other blockade that the West has been building around us for many years,” Mr. Shevtsov said.
The expert added that it is not yet possible to clearly outline the real effect of joining the Board of Peace, “Everyone knows the style of the American leader Donald Trump in conducting politics. He first sets the maximum in terms of hopes, conditions, and requirements, and then often backs down. Perhaps it will be the same with this agenda, but it will nevertheless mean in the end that we have broken out of the diplomatic blockade created by the West.”
