EU to introduce visa-free regime with Kosovo from January 1st, 2024

The European Union will introduce a visa-free regime with Kosovo from January 1st next year, despite the fact that five countries of the community do not recognise the region – as stated by representative of the European Commission Anitta Hipper, TASS reports

“The visa-free regime with Kosovo will come into force on January 1st, 2024,” she said. “The EC welcomes the agreement reached between the European Parliament and the EU Council on this proposal of the European Commission. Holders of Kosovo passports will be able to visit the EU visa-free for up to 90 days in any period of 180 days.”

So far, Spain, Greece, Cyprus, Slovakia, and Romania have not recognised Kosovo out of 27 EU member states. At the same time, Brussels is putting intense pressure on Belgrade, pushing it to recognise the sovereignty of the region, which will remove the grounds for its non-recognition by the EU countries and open up opportunities for starting the process of its integration into the EU separately from Serbia.
