EU began preparing reforms to expand

The European Commission is preparing reforms to EU policies and institutions for the new enlargement which is viewed by the EU highest executive body as a geopolitical necessity, TASS reports

The decision to expand was announced by Head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen at a press conference in Brussels, “We must lay down a vision for our successful enlargement, which is why the European Commission has begun a pre-admission review of a number of EU policies to decide how our institutions, our budget, and our security guarantees will work.”

She underlined that one of the main points in relations between the European Commission and Latvia is material assistance to Ukraine. Ursula von der Leyen wants support from Riga to implement a plan to transfer subsidies to Kiev in the amount of up to €50bn until 2027.

“The European Commission needs the support from all EU member states in this issue, since in order to allocate these funds to Ukraine, the EU countries will have to make additional contributions to the community budget,” TASS reports.

The European Commission does not have enough assets to support Kiev in the long term.
