As noted by Mr. Erdogan, his recent talks in Sochi with Russian President Vladimir Putin also tackled the energy sector issues.

"We will implement various projects for the transportation of energy resources to Europe and around the world through the territory of our country. In connection with the establishment of a gas centre in Turkiye, progress will be made both in the transfer of energy resources and in pricing issues," the Turkish leader said.

According to Mr. Erdogan, work is underway to create the necessary conditions to turn the country ‘into an energy hub’. He said Turkiye will become ‘an important gas base for regional geography’, “We are getting closer, step by step, to our goal: making Turkiye the centre of the region and further of the world energy.”

At the same time, Mr. Erdogan stressed that Ankara expects to maintain Turkish-Russian relations in the field of energy, in which, according to him, both sides are interested. “Like our financial centre in Istanbul, we have a plan to create a natural gas centre similar to those established in London and Hamburg for certain types of businesses. We will discuss this plan with Russia. We want to turn our country into such a centre outside of Thrace," the Turkish leader said.

Mr. Erdogan explained that the centre is planned not only for natural gas, but also for the energy and mining industries. “We can create this centre in one of the blocks of our financial centre in Atasehir," he said.
