Dodik to Lukashenko: our friendship continues despite challenges

Despite pressure from the United States and the European Union, the Republic of Srpska did not support the imposition of sanctions against Belarus – as stated by the President of the Republic of Srpska, an entity in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Milorad Dodik, during his today’s meeting with Belarus’ President Aleksandr Lukashenko

In the beginning of their conversation, Milorad Dodik thanked the Belarusian leader for the opportunity to meet and noted that he was very glad to communicate in person, “I personally view you as a friend of our people or – I would rather say – as a brother.”

As noted by Milorad Dodik, his first meeting with Aleksandr Lukashenko took place in 2000 at the celebration of the 2000th anniversary of Christianity in Jerusalem.

“Despite all the challenges, our friendship continues. I know that your country is also under pressure and sanctions from the West. I want to say that we, in the Republic of Srpska, did not let Bosnia and Herzegovina vote for those sanctions. Of course, it was not easy for us to overcome the pressure from Brussels and Washington, but we remained consistent," the foreign guest said, adding that the entire leadership of the Republic of Srpska is currently under British and American sanctions.
