Half of Britons are dissatisfied with the fact that Liz Truss has become the new Prime Minister of Great Britain, only 4 percent are very happy with her election, follows from a YouGov survey.
Asked in the immediate aftermath of the election result, 50 percent of Britons say they are disappointed that she is to be the next prime minister, including a third (33 percent) who are ‘very disappointed’. This is considerably more than the 22 percent who say they are very or fairly pleased.
Four in ten Conservative voters (41 percent) say they are pleased with Liz Truss’ impending promotion, but a third (34 percent) report being disappointed.
The lack of enthusiasm among Britons may be down to the fact that there is little confidence in Truss’ future government to have the right policies and plans to tackle the rising cost of living.
Two thirds of Britons (67 percent) say they don’t have much confidence in Liz Truss’ government to have the right ideas to get to grips with the escalating cost of living, including 38 percent who have no confidence whatsoever.
The next British prime minister takes office at a moment of desperate anxiety for the UK, with gas shortages triggered by the conflict in Ukraine sending inflation to rates that haven’t been seen for a generation. With millions of families struggling to cover their bills, dockers, rail workers and even lawyers have held strikes to demand higher pay while teachers and nurses may follow in autumn.
Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev has said the new UK PM will continue the ‘tradition’ started by her predecessor Boris Johnson by finishing her tenure ‘in disgrace’. Taking to Telegram, Medvedev commented on the succession of governments in the UK, “Out goes the freak guy, in comes the freak lady.” He described the new PM as ‘an incompetent and mediocre thermonuclear Russophobe who has no elementary ideas about politics, history, geography, but wants to defeat Russia in everything’.
