Deputy Kravtsov: Belarus provides itself with food by 96 percent
Today our country has a time of new opportunities. There is a redistribution of world food markets, and our task in this period is to capture and hold new markets – as noted by Sergei Kravtsov, Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee on Agrarian Policy of the House of Representatives, before the start of a joint meeting of the House of Representatives and the Council of the Republic
The deputy noted that the world is facing a food crisis of unprecedented proportions, “This year, humanity is celebrating its anniversary: there are 8 billion of us. And millions are added annually. All this amount of people needs to be fed, while the resources of the planet are limited. Therefore, the Republic of Belarus has taken the right policy: according to the UN, 100 million are already starving, and about 10 million more hungry are added every year.”
According to Sergei Kravtsov Belarus has chosen the right development of the agricultural sector.
“The agricultural sector, together with the processing industry, provides 14 percent of GDP. We have fed ourselves, being consistently ranked 34th-36th in the 2021 Global Food Security Index. We provide ourselves with food by 96 percent. Moreover, now we have a very interesting period of time. There is a redistribution of sales markets, and our task in this period is to capture and hold new markets,” he added.
