"The parties discussed the prospects for bilateral co-operation and indicated mutual interest in further strengthening Belarusian-Cuban relations in a wide range of areas in the field of emergency prevention and response," the source informed.

The seriousness of intentions and focus on continuing liaisons were confirmed by the signing of an agreement on co-operation in the field of emergency prevention and response between Belarus’ Emergencies Ministry and the Interior Ministry of Cuba.

“It is important for our country to strengthen co-operation with Belarus in various spheres of life and, of course, in the field of emergency prevention and response,” Lazaro Alberto Alvarez Casas said. “Familiarisation with Belarusian technology and developments will certainly be useful for us and will help in our work. By signing the agreement between our departments today, we confirm our intention to continue working to consolidate our interaction.”

The topical issues of co-operation identified by the parties include the exchange of experience in the field of prevention, liquidation and response in case of emergency situations; the exchange of specialists and teachers; the organisation of training of rescuers in educational institutions of the parties; the preparation and implementation of joint projects of technical, social and humanitarian co-operation; the holding of various joint events, and many more.

The Belarusian delegation’s visit to the Republic of Cuba has become a continuation of the development of bilateral co-operation after the Belarusian side transferred humanitarian aid to Cuba this November to overcome the consequences of a fire at an oil storage facility in the port of Matanzas in August 2022. As part of the visit, the delegation headed by Vadim Sinyavsky got acquainted with the activities of the Cuban Interior Ministry and attended various facilities of the department. Earlier, Belarus’ Emergencies Minister met with the Chief of the Civil Defence National Staff of the Republic of Cuba, Division General Ramon Pardo Guerra.
