Comfortable conditions for veterans

The Belarusian Peace Foundation to equip about 2,000 wards for war and labour veterans

The International Day of Peace is celebrated globally on September 21st and, symbolically, the Belarusian Peace Foundation is holding its campaign: War and Labour Veterans in Focus of Our Attention. Its task is to create as comfortable as possible conditions for patients in hospital. With this in view, medical beds, bedside tables, a refrigerator, a TV set and medical diagnostics equipment will soon be distributed among 2,000 wards across the country.

By now, 33 veterans' wards have been equipped at the Minsk City Clinical Oncologic Dispensary and the City Clinical Hospital for Emergency Aid.

As the Chairman of the Belarusian Peace Foundation’s Board, Maksim Misko, says, this campaign embraces the whole country, “We’ve decided to revamp veterans' wards countrywide: there are about 2,000 of them in total, including more than 180 in Minsk. It costs more than $1,500 to equip one ward and, by now, about 300 of them are ready. It’s a very important action since we should not pass on everything to the state but rather take care of our veterans independently. The result is then great.”

Healthcare Minister Dmitry Pinevich has also supported the campaign. He believes it’s always good to unite efforts. “The action takes place on the International Day of Peace – which is very symbolic. Such aid has another deep meaning: that were veterans who brought peace to our land. Another important point is that new wards now have heart rate monitors and thermometers which are necessary during the pandemic. We are grateful to the businessmen and our colleagues. Any resource and step are important for us,” he says.
