Doris Anite noted that Nigeria is capable of producing cars on its own, adding that the country ‘has enough raw materials and does not lack knowledge, an extensive sales market and a car production plan are also available’.

The country plans to focus on motorcycles, passenger cars and heavy trucks, and Nigeria’s new plan envisages the launch of their production in the coming decade. As explained by the official, the task is to reduce selling prices and make vehicles affordable for ordinary Nigerians.

In 2022-2023, car imports to Nigeria increased by 226.46 percent, to 1,063 trillion Naira (about $700m), according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics.
