The Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange plans to expand co-operation with Serbian businesses, including in the brokerage format – as stated by the Head of BUCE Foreign Economic Relations Department, Aleksandr Bashliy, during a recent seminar held in Belgrade with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in the Republic of Serbia, sb.by reports with reference to the BUCE press service
The event gathered Serbian companies who consider the possibility of using the exchange mechanism to conclude export-import transactions with Belarusian enterprises.
According to Mr. Bashliy, the accreditation of a brokerage company that will represent the BUCE interests in Serbia and assist in attracting businesses to the Belarusian stock exchange platform will bring the bilateral exchange trading to a qualitatively new level.
“Serbia is a key trade and economic partner of Belarus in the Balkans, and this is the reason for the close attention to the development of co-operation between our countries, including in the field of stock trading. Last year, the exchange turnover between Belarus and Serbia increased 37 times, and it rose 10-fold in January-February 2025. However, despite the significant growth rate of exchange transactions, the degree of involvement of Serbian businesses in trading on the BUCE platform needs to be increased, and this task could be effectively solved by accrediting a stockbroker in Serbia, who will not only help Serbian business entities participate in auctions, but will also take over payments and logistics," Mr. Bashliy stressed.
In addition, according to the BUCE representative, the presence of a local broker will significantly simplify the entry of Serbian companies into the commodity market of Belarus, and will also diversify the structure of trade.
“So far, we have accredited only eight residents of the Republic of Serbia, which is objectively insufficient to achieve higher rates of mutual trade. Through a broker, Serbian companies will be able to start working on the exchange platform faster, as they will not need to spend time on paperwork, training and other preparatory activities: all this will be done by a professional market participant," Mr. Bashliy added.
As of March 25th, 2025, fifty-four brokerage companies were accredited with the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange, including 21 non-residents from ten countries.
