“We will use AI to process the data received in Botswana. Our mineral database is too large for humans to analyse in a timely manner. Massive databases are suitable for analysis using large-scale data models based on computers and AI techniques able to analyse significant amounts of data in a short period of time,” the company’s website quotes its CEO John Teeling.

Botswana Diamonds has a 380 gigabyte database containing approximately 375,000km of airborne geophysical data and 228,000 soil sample results.

The company uses Xplore technology, developed by Planetary AI in conjunction with International Geoscience Services, to locate and analyse deposits. Xplore combines various machine learning techniques to enable AI to understand, interpret and analyse data to identify areas of mineralisation. Then, in the most promising areas according to AI calculations, drilling operations will be conducted.

Botswana is Africa’s leader in diamond production.
