Borrell: EU should strengthen relations with Central Asia
In modern conditions, the European Union should strengthen relations with the countries of Central Asia, which are becoming more and more important from a strategic point of view – as stated in Berlin by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, RIA Novosti reports
Borrell believes that the states of Central Asia are becoming increasingly important from a strategic point of view.
“They are looking to diversify their foreign policy. They are no longer Soviet republics. They are asking Russia to respect their independence, and we have to increase our relationship with them,” he shared his opinion.
The head of European diplomacy also noted that in the nearest time he plans to take part in the Connectivity Conference between Central Asia and Europe in Samarkand.
“This will be a good occasion to reinforce our links, relations with the countries of Central Asia, and to develop our strategic investment programme,” Borrell said.
