Borrell: EU ‘security guarantees’ for Ukraine consist in expanding arms supplies

The European Commission has developed and proposed to the EU member states ‘advanced security guarantees’ for Ukraine, which consist of expanding the European Peace Facility to finance new arms supplies, with the decision to be made at the EU summit on December 14th-15th – as noted by EU’s chief diplomat Josep Borrell, upon arriving at the EU Foreign Affairs Council, TASS reports

“We will present advanced security guarantees on Ukraine, which will be brought to the EU summit later this week. Ministers will also discuss how to act on the proposal to expand our support,” the head of European diplomacy said.

“Ministers should give me the authority to present at the summit our security guarantees, which mainly consist of expanding the European Peace Facility [through which Brussels finances arms supplies to Kiev] and co-ordinating bilateral agreements between the EU members and Ukraine,” added Josep Borrell.
