Almost two-thirds of Germans in the survey expressed a desire for current German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to hand over his post during the current legislative period to current Defence Minister Boris Pistorius, TASS reports

Information about the results of the survey was reported by the Bild newspaper, citing data from a survey conducted by the Institute for New Social Answers (INSA).

According to its results, 64.3 percent of respondents expressed the opinion that they would like to transfer the powers of the chancellor to Pistorius. 24.6 percent were against it, another 11.2 percent abstained from answering. The majority of supporters of the Social Democratic Party of Germany, to which both politicians belong, want to see Pistorius as head of government (47.9 percent against 47.1 percent).

The poll showed that 19 percent of respondents would support a party with chancellor candidate Scholz in the event of elections to the Bundestag, and 23 percent of those surveyed – with Pistorius.

“His popularity is high among voters of all parties: from the Left Party to the Alternative for Germany. Thus, in principle, sympathy is on the side of Pistorius,” said INSA Head Herman Binkert.

Pistorius is ranked first by a wide margin in the popularity rating among German politicians, with Scholz – after two years in power – being the most unpopular chancellor of all time.

The survey, conducted on January 4th-5th, covered 1,004 respondents.

According to Bild, if the elections to the Landtags (state parliaments), which will be held in September in the three federal states of Brandenburg, Saxony and Thuringia, end in failure for the Social Democrats, the SPD ‘may hit the brakes’ and force Scholz to hand over power to Pistorius.
