BelCCI Head: Belarus, Uzbekistan enjoy growing trade turnover

Mikhail Myatlikov, the Chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, commented on the Belarus-Uzbekistan economic affairs

“Last December, during a working visit of Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko to Uzbekistan, a Belarusian-Uzbek business forum was held, and it brought together more than 300 representatives of business circles from both sides in ancient Samarkand. Our partners from Uzbekistan have paid a return visit, coming to Belarus these days. Representatives of more than 100 Uzbek organisations, industry departments and enterprises have taken part [in a recent business meeting in Minsk],” Mr. Myatlikov said.

According to the BelCCI Head, delegations working in several areas arrived in the Belarusian capital, including those engaged into woodworking, textile industry, and agriculture.

“Uzbekistan is one of the most important trade and economic partners for Belarus, and our bilateral trade is steadily growing. Over the past three years, the trade turnover between Belarus and Uzbekistan has almost doubled, reaching $500m. According to business representatives, it is likely to increase by another $600m in 2024,” Mr. Myatlikov added.

It was noted that Belarusian meat and dairy products, as well as agricultural machinery enjoy popularity in Uzbekistan. In turn, Uzbekistan supplies fruits, dried fruits, vegetables, and copper to Belarus.

Mr. Myatlikov also informed on the future major projects between Belarus and Uzbekistan, “Minsk’s talks are likely to contribute to the creation of joint projects in the dairy industry, as well as the opening of dairy plants in Uzbekistan. In turn, our Uzbek partners have a desire to build a large trading house in Belarus – to sell high-quality vegetables and fruits. Searching for a site to establish such a trading house was among the issues on the meeting’s agenda.”
