Belarusian sugar first sold to Moldova through BUCE

The first transaction on the sale of 210 tonnes of white granulated sugar to the Republic of Moldova has been registered on the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange, and the largest Moldovan sugar importer acted as the buyer, BUCE spokesman Roman Yaniv informed

The exchange expects that the pilot deal will become the starting point for regular supplies of Belarusian sugar to Moldova, since the same algorithm was previously used to work with Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

“The Moldovan market is certainly promising from the point of view of exporting Belarusian sugar. The country consumes over 80 thousand tonnes of this product annually, and the exchange platform provides direct access to manufacturing enterprises, coupled with low risks and transparent market pricing. Based on the experience of working with importers from Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, who at one time also started with trial transactions, it can be assumed that co-operation with Moldova will develop according to a similar scenario. That is, after the first batch of sugar arrives to the buyer, the volume of purchases will gradually increase, as well as the number of transactions. Among other things, the session mechanism of sugar export trading contributes to predictability and rhythmicity of supplies," Mr. Yaniv said.

In H1 2023, sugar exports through the BUCE in physical terms reached almost 10,000 tonnes. Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan are the key buyers now.
