Belarus to build its own terminal or port in Murmansk Region

Last year, export cargo from Belarus was transshipped across twenty Russian ports – as noted by Belarus’ Minister of Transport and Communications Aleksei Avramenko

At the same time, he underlined, “The strategic task for us is to have our own port, our own terminals, through which we could transship Belarusian export cargo. This is necessary to consolidate and stabilise the logistics flows that go today through the Russian Federation.”

Belarus is now actively using the Bronka terminal in the port of St. Petersburg for transshipment of the main range of goods. The Transport and Communications Minister said that a deal is currently being worked out for the acquisition of this complex by Belarus, and expressed confidence that it will take place this year.

Moreover, our country intends to build its own terminal or port in the Murmansk Region.

“Recently, a Transport Ministry delegation returned from the Murmansk Region together with other interested departments. At the moment, Belarus has been offered three sites for the construction of a terminal, but we are also considering the issue of building directly a Belarusian port,” said Aleksei Avramenko. “We are currently studying the issues of where the territory is better in terms of infrastructure and what kind of goods Belarus will be able to transship there. Next, we will develop a strategic decision on the location and construction of a port in the Murmansk Region. It will be made this year.”
