Belarus, Tatarstan discuss potential of bilateral industrial interaction

Belarus’ Industry Minister Aleksandr Rogozhnik has met with Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov to confirm the two sides’ readiness for an active industrial dialogue: strengthening contacts between business entities, developing industrial infrastructure, and increasing trade volumes – as reported in the Industry Ministry’s press service

In particular, the two sides discussed the interest and readiness of MAZ and Belkommunmash enterprises to participate in the renewal of Tatarstan’s passenger transport complex, including the supply of buses, trolleybuses, tram cars and electric buses, as well as the establishment of a joint venture for the production of tram cars.

The possibility of supplying Belarusian equipment using export support mechanisms was also expressed.

Moreover, the agenda tackled the supply of machine tools by Belarusian enterprises of the machine tool industry as part of the programmes of technical re-equipment and modernisation of Tatarstan’s industrial enterprises.

Aleksandr Rogozhnik stressed that co-operation with Tatarstan in the industrial sector is long-term and constructive. In January-September, the turnover of Belarusian enterprises (subordinated to the Industry Ministry) with Tatarstan increased by 40 percent compared to the same period last year to exceed $270m. The volume of machine building exports rose by 52 percent to reach $198m. The basis of exports was the supply of metal goods by BMZ – Management Company of the BMC Holding, trucks by MAZ JSC, tractors by MTZ JSC, forage and grain harvesting equipment by Gomselmash JSC.

Alongside the organisation of supplies of Belarusian agricultural and automotive equipment, joint work continues on the implementation of co-operation projects between the industrial enterprises of the two sides.

During the meeting, the parties confirmed their readiness for an active industrial dialogue: strengthening contacts between business entities, developing industrial infrastructure, and increasing trade volumes.
