Belarus reports six airspace violations by EU since August 2023

The Chief of the International Military Co-operation Department – Assistant to the Defence Minister for International Military Co-operation, Colonel Valery Revenko, has held an annual press briefing for 28 representatives of the military-diplomatic corps accredited with the Belarusian Defence Ministry in Minsk

The approaches to military policy stipulated in the draft updated Military Doctrine of Belarus were highlighted for the participants, and information on the directions of the construction and development of the Armed Forces was updated. Valery Revenko emphasised that the increasing scale of intelligence activities and the build-up of the intensity of operational and combat training of the foreign states’ armed forces lead to an increase in cases of violation of Belarus’ state border in the airspace, “Since August 2023 alone, six similar incidents have been recorded from Lithuania, Latvia and Poland. I would like to underline that – despite the current situation – the Belarusian defence department is reacting to these provocations with maximum restraint, limiting itself to the rise of duty aircraft and taking diplomatic measures. At the same time, in order to ensure border security, the Armed Forces continue to implement on a regular basis a set of measures to strengthen the security of sections of the state border both in the airspace and on land. Our troops are in constant readiness to repel any aggression.

Serious unfavourable changes in the geopolitical situation and the negative dynamics of its development have necessitated the need to introduce fundamental changes to Belarus’ Military Doctrine. Valery Revenko introduced official representatives of foreign states to certain points that formed the basis of the draft updated Military Doctrine, and noted that the new edition will be considered and submitted for approval to the Belarusian People’s Congress – to be held in April this year.
