Belarus’ PM: creation of high-tech products ahead of foreign analogues is landmark for CIS

The creation of high-tech products that are ahead of their foreign counterparts in terms of characteristics is a landmark for all CIS member states – as noted by Belarus’ Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko, speaking at a meeting of the CIS Heads of Government Council in Moscow today

According to the PM, it is important to move forward synchronously and jointly produce competitive products. There are already many examples of such effective co-operation, but they need to be scaled up as much as possible. “Along with the implementation of previously adopted decisions on priority areas of co-operation, new ideas and proposals that meet the challenges of the time need to be generated," Mr. Golovchenko said, adding that the decisions taken within the EAEU and the Union State (which have proven their effectiveness) should be more actively used.

“For example, a co-operative project for the creation of a Eurasian electric bus is currently in the active stage of its development in the EAEU. It was decided to form an appropriate interstate programme, as well as to finance such projects. I am sure that such ‘end-to-end’ integration projects can and should be implemented within the CIS, fully utilising the joint scientific, technological and financial potential of our countries. This also applies to issues of e-commerce, the introduction of digital technologies, the provision of access to public procurement, and the cutting of roaming charges," the PM stressed.

Mr. Golovchenko noted with satisfaction that, in 2023 all the CIS states have managed to return to the growth trajectory, despite an extensive external pressure exerted on a number of them.

In January-September 2023, the CIS GDP increased against the 2022 figures by more than 2 percent, the volume of industrial products – by 3.4 percent, cargo transportation – by almost 6 percent, retail trade turnover – by 5 percent. These are good indicators, which – as noted by the Belarusian Prime Minister – can and should be significantly increased next year.
