Belarus, Pakistan to sign a roadmap to increase trade in 2023-2025

Belarus and Pakistan plan to sign a roadmap to increase trade in 2023-2025 – as reported by the Belarusian Energy Ministry’s press service

The main areas of bilateral co-operation and the conditions for its further expansion were considered during a working meeting of Belarus’ Deputy Energy Minister Denis Moroz with Pakistan’s First Deputy Minister of Economy Kazim Niaz, which was held in the format of a video conference.

The negotiations were a continuation of the implementation of the decisions taken during the meeting of the Joint Belarusian-Pakistani Commission on Trade-Economic Co-operation in January 2023 in Minsk. The Belarusian part of the commission is headed by the Energy Minister.

Denis Moroz noted that the work carried out by the countries to intensify liaisons is yielding results. In January-May 2023, mutual trade increased by 30 percent. At the same time, exports of Belarusian goods to Pakistan increased 1.5 times over the specified period compared to the same period last year. Pakistan is supplied with Belarusian industrial products, including tractor equipment, potash fertilisers, and food products. Work is underway to promote Belarusian mining and agricultural equipment, as well as electric transport to the Pakistani market. Pakistan delivers goods of light industry and agriculture to Belarus.

“The potential of bilateral interaction enables the two countries to explore new areas of co-operation,” added Denis Moroz. “In particular, Belarus is ready to offer Pakistan mutually beneficial projects in pharmaceuticals, petrochemistry, and metal production. Moreover, there are opportunities for expanding humanitarian and interregional ties.”

Kazim Niaz stressed that the Pakistani side is keen to study Belarus’ experience and opportunities in medicine and biotechnology, agro-industrial complex, geological exploration, and the IT industry.
