Belarus leads in SDG achievement ranking among CIS states

Belarus is the leader among the CIS countries in the ranking of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, the Economy Ministry reports

The Economy Ministry has released several facts from the 2035 National Strategy of Sustainable Development in Figures: Results of the Implementation of Sustainable Development Priorities report. According to the document, Belarus managed to achieve the GDP growth (103.8 percent) in 2023 – despite the change in the geo-economic situation. Gross external debt relative to GDP decreased from 68.7 percent in 2020 to 48.9 percent (as of July 1st, 2023), while GDP per capita with regard to purchasing power par increased from $20.3 thousand in 2020 to $25.2 thousand (as estimated) in 2023.

The report says that Belarus demonstrates one of the lowest indicators of the level of poverty among the CIS countries: in 2022, it stood at 3.9 percent. The target set by the national strategy to reduce the level of low income among the population (up to 4 percent in 2035) has already been achieved.

"Belarus is among the countries that boast a high level of human development. It is ranked 60th among 191 countries in the Human Development Index," the document reads.
