Belarus documented its position in the UN for the first time in many years

The Belarusian Foreign Ministry is carrying out systematic work to attract the international community’s attention to the problems of preserving historical memory and, above all, to the genocide of the Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War – as stated by Deputy Foreign Minister Yuri Ambrazevich at a regular meeting of the Republican Council for Historical Policy under the Belarus President Administration

“Jointly with its missions abroad, Belarus’ Foreign Ministry is carrying out systematic work to attract the international community’s attention to the problems of preserving historical memory and, above all, to the topic of the genocide of the Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War. We have developed, approved and are currently implementing a plan of work of the commission on foreign policy support of historical policy; its next meeting is scheduled for November 22nd. To highlight the topic of the genocide of the Belarusian people in the international arena, we have initiated and organised the publication of a special material on this problem as an official document of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly. This enabled us for the first time in many years (since the 1950s) to officially document the position of Belarus in the UN and spread it as widely as possible among all member states,” the diplomat said.

Mr. Ambrazevich added, “With the involvement of a network of our foreign institutions, work is being carried out to promote this topic both in the partner states and in others, including with the unconditional use of our diasporas and as part of the events scheduled for this Year of Historical Memory. In the context of the ongoing work on the topic of preserving historical memory, Belarus closely co-operates with Russia and other partners who support us, puts forward a thematic resolution on countering the glorification and rehabilitation of Nazism, which has become the hallmark of like-minded countries.”
