Lukashenko on inviting observers from the West to presidential elections in Belarus

Western observers are not interested in the electoral process in Belarus: they have pre-prepared documents with them when coming to the country – as stated by the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, at his today’s meeting with the heads of the CIS electoral authorities

During the meeting, the Head of State touched upon the issue of monitoring the conduct of electoral campaigns. According to the President, Belarus is always ready to welcome CIS representatives. “We will send invitations to all of you so that you can come [and see] how the presidential elections will be organised. This is very important for us: your friendly advice, comments, or even criticism are taken seriously,” he said.

Meanwhile, according to the Belarusian leader, the decision on whether to invite observers from the West is yet to be taken. “We know that their arrival is accompanied by pre-prepared documents, which they will then read out and sign,” the President noted.

As an example, Aleksandr Lukashenko mentioned the 2020 elections in Belarus: the Western observers then came to the country with the pre-prepared conclusions. “We were waiting for them to be announced. Later they made it public: they announced what they had taken with them [to the country]. They are not interested in this process. They have determined in advance what they will do in our country, and they have prepared already the final statement. Therefore, we are thinking over this issue, we will consult with you,” the Head of State said.

Aleksandr Lukashenko added, “Of course, we would like them to see and get disappointed with their pre-prepared opinion. At the same time, we cannot allow them to come again with ready documents and make an appropriate statement, which has already been prepared or which has been written by the others.”

Another important point that the Head of State drew attention to is to guarantee the security of the electoral process. It is also very important that, after the elections, citizens trust their results.
