Viktor Khrenin noted that Cuba is an important partner for Belarus in the international arena and a strategic ally in the Western Hemisphere, “Despite the geographical remoteness and cultural differences, our countries are very similar. We are similar in our defence of freedom and independence, social justice and equal co-operation with other countries. We are similar because we are not afraid of difficulties and do not abandon our goals. We are proud of the chosen path of development and do not impose it on anyone. In the situation that has developed in the world and around our countries, people have begun to understand how important such simple concepts as stability, tranquillity and peace are."

The Defence Minister recalled the words of the Belarusian leader in one of his speeches, where the President regretfully said that today military force is the basis of political relations between the countries. "Therefore, it is important for the defence departments to build such relations so that they meet the needs of our people, so that people feel safe," Mr. Khrenin stressed. "A good constructive dialogue between friends always stands high, and we enjoy such a dialogue with Cuba."

During an official visit to the Republic of Cuba, Belarus’ Defence Minister Viktor Khrenin and the Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of the Republic of Cuba, Alvaro Lopez Miera, laid flowers and a wreath at the foot of the mausoleum. They honoured the memory of the Cuban heroes who fought for the freedom of the people of this republic.
