Belarus’ Defence Minister awarded Order of Playa Giron, established by Cuban President

Belarus’ Defence Minister, Lieutenant General Viktor Khrenin, has been awarded the Order of Playa Giron, established by the President of Cuba – as reported by the Belarusian Defence Ministry in its Telegram channel

The defence department of our country explained that the order is awarded to Cuban and foreign citizens, heads of state and government for outstanding achievements in the fight against imperialism and reactionary forces, for valuable contribution to the construction of the armed forces and for high achievements in the name of peace and progress of mankind.

Speaking at the solemn ceremony, Viktor Khrenin said, “I’m convinced that, first of all, this is an assessment of the daily military work of all military personnel of the Belarusian army. I’m aware of the highest level of responsibility that this award places on me. I want to assure that we will make every effort to ensure peace and security.”

During Viktor Khrenin’s official visit to the Republic of Cuba, negotiations took place between the head of the Belarusian defence department and the Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of the Republic of Cuba, Army Corps General Alvaro Lopez Miera. The ministers shared views on international situation and substantively discussed the prospects for bilateral co-operation in the military sphere.

“The similarities in the two states’ positions in the international arena, strong historical ties and common approaches to assessing the key problems of our time were noted,” the Belarusian Defence Ministry said in a statement.

The department also informed that Viktor Khrenin and Alvaro Lopez Miera signed documents on bilateral military co-operation between the two countries.
