Belarus, Botswana discuss ways and mechanisms for developing economic relations
The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to South Africa and the Republic of Botswana (concurrently), Igor Bely, has visited the Republic of Botswana on April 2nd-4th, sb.by reports with reference to the Belarusian Foreign Ministry’s website
“During a meeting with the Permanent Secretary (First Deputy Minister) of the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Botswana, Ellen Richard-Madisa, ways and mechanisms for developing economic relations between the two countries were discussed. The parties agreed to take steps to create an institutional basis for strengthening Belarusian-Botswana trade and investment liaisons in the field of agriculture, industrial co-operation, and high technology,” the Foreign Ministry informed.
It is reported that special attention was paid to the prospects for expanding mutual trade and the participation of Belarusian enterprises in economic projects in Botswana.
The Ambassador of Belarus has also met with Business Botswana CEO Norman Moleele to discuss specific steps to develop contacts between the two countries’ business circles and establish interaction between Business Botswana and the National Centre for Marketing and Price Study.
“As part of the trip, Igor Bely took part in a conference organised by the President of Botswana, Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi, for heads of diplomatic missions and dedicated to the future development of this African country and region. The importance of developing Botswana’s agricultural sector and creating efficient production facilities in the country using foreign capital was noted,” the Belarusian Foreign Ministry said.
At the meeting with Botswana’s Foreign Ministry leadership – held on the sidelines of the conference – specific steps to intensify bilateral political dialogue and economic ties, as well as the legal framework for relations, were discussed.
In addition, the Belarusian Ambassador discussed with the leadership of the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food Security of Botswana the possibilities for Belarusian participation in the development of the country’s agricultural complex. The head of the diplomatic mission also conveyed to the Botswana side an invitation to take part in the Belagro 2024 international exhibition.
