Belarus’ Ambassador attended unveiling ceremony of military memorial in Hungary
Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus in Hungary Vladimir Ulakhovich has taken part in the opening ceremony of the war memorial at the Dugonich municipal cemetery in Szeged after a large-scale restoration, sb.by reports with reference to the Embassy of Belarus in Hungary
The burial consists of 191 tombstones and 35 mass graves containing the remains of 1,084 Red Army soldiers and officers.
“Representatives of the embassies of Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Serbia and Venezuela, as well as Hungarian public organisations, laid wreaths at the central obelisk to honour the memory of the Soviet soldiers who liberated the Hungarian territories on the left bank of the Tisza River in October 1944 as part of the Debrecen Offensive Operation,” the Belarusian Embassy said in a statement.
The ceremony ended with a divine service conducted by the Archpriest of the Church of St. Sergius of Radonezh in Budapest, John Kadar.
“The opening ceremony of the Soviet military cemetery in Szeged, which is the largest in the eastern part of Hungary, has become an important milestone in a series of commemorative events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Great Patriotic War,” the press service of the diplomatic mission informed.
