Anti-Russian sanctions hit poor countries, Malian Foreign Minister asserts

Sanctions that European countries are imposing against Russia have significantly hit the economies of poor countries, thus creating a risk of a food crisis – as noted by Mali's Foreign Minister, Abdoulaye Diop, RIA Novosti reports

According to the politician, anti-Russian sanctions have caused many problems, “Many difficulties, many problems are emerging. Banking transactions may also be affected. This has created difficulties and paralysed the economic system," Mr. Diop said.

The Foreign Minister of Mali said that sanctions primarily hit not Russia, but poor countries whose economies were not ready for them. Mr. Diop added that such measures do not contribute to the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, and steps of the kind – taken by the West – are actually aggravating the situation.

It is obvious that anti-Russian sanctions will have a negative impact on the food situation in the world. According to Mr. Diop, more people may suffer from the food crisis than from terrorist attacks.

He added that, in the current situation, sanctions against Russia will actually ‘sentence to death’ residents of poor countries, since people will be left without food. Humanitarian and food aid will not be able to help civilians, because international economic and trade ties have been severely disrupted.
