Ambrazevich: Eurasian security conference must have a future

The holding of the Eurasian Security: Reality and Prospects in a Transforming World high-level international conference in Minsk is an indicator of Belarus’ real and sincere attitude towards the importance and timeliness of inclusive dialogue – as stated by Belarus’ Deputy Foreign Minister Yuri Ambrazevich during his speech at the closing of the event

He explained that the idea of holding such a forum was proposed to the Belarusian Head of State in May last year, when the world was just beginning to experience the events that happened. The Deputy Foreign Minister noted that Belarus has been constantly talking about the need for an inclusive dialogue in recent years, “Through such code things as Helsinki-2, Dialogue in the spirit of San Francisco. And what is happening today is part of the inclusive dialogue that we would like to see on issues that really concern our political leadership, our diplomacy and that we would like to convey to everyone.”

Yuri Ambrazevich drew attention to the fact that in modern conditions, due to changing factors, the overall speed of movement in the world has increased, and the time to cover the distance from Lisbon to Vladivostok has decreased significantly. And in this situation, no one in the Eurasian space, including representatives of Western countries, can consider themselves an outside observer of the ongoing processes, “We invited most EU countries to the conference. The course of our conference, when we were able to avoid slipping into badmouthing one particular opponent, is the key to the vision of success of our future meetings.”

According to the Deputy Foreign Minister, countries need to recognise each other as equals, “The sooner we start talking, the faster it will happen. That’s the point. After all, it is not enough to recognize as equals; we also need to understand what we are talking about. This is the first attempt in a year and a half to gather everyone. And we want this conference to have a future.

The deepest interest is to prevent a Caribbean moment, Yuri Ambrazevich underlined, “That’s why we would like to maintain communication channels.”
