Ambassador: Victory Day celebration is common tradition of Serbian, Belarusian peoples

Serbia and Belarus jointly honour the feat of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War – as stated by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Serbia to the Republic of Belarus Ilina Vukajlovic during the People’s Feat to Live for Centuries international scientific and practical conference dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory of the Soviet people over the Nazi invaders

As the Serbian Ambassador noted, the topic of the Great Patriotic War is not just a set of historical facts, “The main thing is to remember it not only on anniversaries, but throughout our lives. We must constantly honour the memory of those who died defending their Homeland. It is customary to celebrate May 9th solemnly in Belarus, as in Serbia. Serbs pay a lot of attention to this in school curricula and culture. We publish a lot of materials on this topic. We are also happy to prepare for the visit of our President Aleksandar Vucict to Moscow for the May 9th parade.”

According to the Serbian diplomat, Belarus is doing a lot to preserve historical memory, which is obviously visible in schools, as well as in cultural and state institutions.

“We consider it a very important tradition both for the education of the younger generation and for us who temporarily live and work in Belarus. Serbia shares with Belarusians this part of history, this struggle and these traditions. Even if we talk not only about geographical borders, but in a broader, civilisational sense, we have a lot in common,” Ms. Vukajlovic emphasised.
