2,200+ athletes from 23 countries to perform at 2nd CIS Games

Today, the 2nd CIS Games will start with competitions in rhythmic gymnastics. During the multisport forum, athletes will compete for medals across 20 sports, and competitions will be held in all regions of the country. The Sports and Tourism Ministry told us how many participants and from which countries will compete at the Games. Belarus’ First Deputy Sports and Tourism Minister Aleksandr Dorokhovich reminded that the 2nd CIS Games received an open format, so representation at them is wider than during the debut Games, which were held in Kazan two years ago and were attended by 1,138 athletes from nine countries.

“As of August 3rd, 2,214 athletes from 22 countries have been registered to participate in the 2nd CIS Games. 533 people have already arrived in Belarus,” Aleksandr Dorokhovich said.

Athletes from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Bahrain, Venezuela, Vietnam, Iran, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mongolia, Oman, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Egypt, UAE and, of course, Belarus will take part in the event.

As Deputy Sports and Tourism Minister Aleksandr Baraulya noted, the Belarusian delegation will be the most representative, comprising of 673 athletes. The second largest is the Russian team, which has 602 athletes.
