The Belarusian sportswomen won one gold (Maria Mamoshuk), one silver (Irina Kurochkina) and two bronze (Marina Markevich and Vasilisa Marzalyuk) medals, in addition to 49 points which enabled our team to be placed second. Trained by Oleg Raikhlin, our athletes finished behind Ukraine but ahead of Russia.

Belarusian freestyle wrestlers also played a successful tournament in the Latvian capital: Ivan Yankovsky and Georgy Koliev won silver medals and, on the final day, Azamat Nurikov and Alexey Nikolaev captured two bronze medals. As a result, the Belarusian freestyle and women’s wrestling teams won eight medals.

Wrestlers in the Greco-Roman style claimed two bronze medals. Alexander Grabovik and Iosif Chugoshvili (both performing in the heavy weight category) did well.

The Belarusian team will next take part in Olympic qualification tournaments in Serbia’s Zrenjanin (April 15th-17th) and Istanbul (May 6th-8th), battling for places at the Rio de Janeiro Summer Games. Our freestyle athletes are yet to win tickets to Brazil but Vasilisa Marzalyuk (75kg category) will participate in the Summer Olympics: last year, she won the first European Games in Baku.
