According to the Swiss Federal Council, the Swiss Army Cyber Command is participating in the world’s largest cyber defence exercise – Locked Shields 2024 – in co-operation with various national and international partners. The Swiss government noted that the protection of critical infrastructure is in focus.

About 70 people from Switzerland are participating in Locked Shields 2024, including military personnel, employees of the federal administration and operators of critical infrastructure.

As explained by the country’s government, the enemy will carry out cyber attacks in real time on simulated computer networks and critical infrastructure. The task of the teams will be to detect these attacks and protect against them.

The annual exercises are conducted by the NATO Co-operative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence (CCDCOE) located in the Estonian capital. In 2024, about 4,000 experts from more than 40 countries have joined forces in a simulated environment during exercises to protect the infrastructure of ‘a fictional nation and its country’.
