Relocation of livestock institute in favour of German ammunition producing plant will cost €5m+ for Lithuania

In Lithuania, the authorities want to relocate the Institute of Animal Science for its site to be used for the construction of an ammunition plant of Germany’s Rheinmetall defence concern, and the project will cost more than 5m Euros, TASS reports

Artūras Šiukščius, who heads the institution, said that renovation of farms and their adaptation to the needs will require up to 5m Euros, and even more money will be needed for relocation. He explained that not only farms are needed, but other outbuildings as well – in addition to pastures.

The Institute of Animal Science in Lithuania works over the preservation of the gene pool of cattle. It is noted that some breeds have been preserved only there.
