Volfovich revealed some details of Lukashenko’s visit to Obuz-Lesnovsky training ground

The President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, today visited the 230th combined arms training ground Obuz-Lesnovsky, where the Russian part of the regional group of forces is stationed, and inspected the course of combat training. State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Aleksandr Volfovich told journalists about the essence and objectives of this trip.

“Recently, based on the difficult military-political situation and NATO’s growing military activity on the territory of states adjacent to Belarus, the President of the country personally controls issues related to the combat readiness of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus, as well as the course and quality of combat training. All these issues are systematically reported to him. Today, the Head of State inspected the quality of combat training of one of our country’s military units. Here, at the training ground, he also attended one of the units of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, which is part of the regional group of forces and is being co-ordinated together with the Armed Forces of Belarus at our training grounds.”

Aleksandr Volfovich recalled that the regional group of forces, the decision to deploy which was made last year by the presidents of Russia and Belarus, is one of the elements of strategic deterrence, “This is an element that today, probably, should cool hot heads in the West about the aggressive policy towards the Republic of Belarus and the Union State. We see that a lot of military activity is taking place on the western borders of the Union State, and the number of military drills is increasing. We record permanent overflights of reconnaissance aircraft. That is, a policy that is not peaceful at all comes from our neighbours. Therefore, it was decided to deploy a regional group of forces. It has exclusively defensive purposes and is primarily aimed to protect the western borders of the Union State.”

Aleksandr Volfovich also spoke about the details of the meeting between Aleksandr Lukashenko and the military personnel of the Russian Federation, “As a gift, they were given individual first-aid kits, which were developed exclusively at Belarusian enterprises. During their communication with the President of Belarus, the servicemen of the Russian Federation, first of all, noted the truly cordial hospitality. The Belarusian side is responsible for issues related to the provision of training, logistics issues, technical support, repair of equipment ... All these issues have been settled at the highest level. There were no claims against the Belarusian side from our friends, Russian brothers. There were only words of gratitude for hospitality, cordiality, assistance in organising training classes, providing our educational and material base, instructors, teachers of the training centre, the Military Academy – for what should be practiced during the joint co-ordination of such large groups.”
