State Secretary of Belarus’ Security Council: we’re always ready to defend our people and land from any dangers, without posing threat to others
Lieutenant General Aleksandr Volfovich, the State Secretary of Belarus’ Security Council, emphasised that the inspections of the troops’ combat readiness also serve to demonstrate to the West that, if necessary, we are ready to defend our country, sb.by reports with reference to Belarus’ Defence Ministry
Mr. Volfovich noted that about 14 military exercises are currently underway in Poland and the Baltic States, with seven of them taking place directly in the border areas.
“Regarding relations with our neighbours, the West’s hysteria continues, and the militaristic policies currently pursued by the West towards our country and the Russian Federation are, unfortunately, concerning. Approximately seven exercises are ongoing in Poland and the Baltic States, including at training grounds in Pabrade and Gaiziunai, located 15-95km from us, involving groups of 2,000 to 2,500 troops. These military drills focus on combat training and offensive tactics,” the State Secretary of the Security Council explained.
He also highlighted activities along the state border, saying, “Civilians are being resettled, a 50km zone is being cleared, forests are being cut down, and various engineering structures are being installed along the border. What is the purpose of this? Allegedly, it is to protect against threats coming from the East.”
Mr. Volfovich stressed that Belarus does not threaten its neighbours, stating, “We simply want to live peacefully on our land and, of course, are always ready to defend our people from any external dangers, without posing a threat to anyone.”
