Shymanovich, Zarazua win Puerto Vallarta Open doubles

Iryna Shymanovich and Renata Zarazua have won women’s doubles title of the WTA 125 category tennis tournament with a prize money of $115,000, held in the Mexican city of Puerto Vallarta, defeating Italians Angelica Moratelli and Camilla Rosatello – 6:2, 7:6 (7:1) – in the finals

Before the start of the competitions, bookmakers did not classify the Belarusian and Mexican as obvious contenders for the title. Meanwhile, they beat the Russians Irina Khromacheva and Yana Sizikova (6:4, 6:4) before winning over the French-Czech duo of Elixane Lechemia and Anna Siskova (6:2, 3:6, 10:6) and putting a bright winning point in the finals.

Iryna Shymanovich and Renata Zarazua started the match unsuccessfully – 0:2 – but then began to show really well-coordinated, combinational and sharp tennis, enabling them to win six games in a row, thus closing the first set in their favour.

The second set, during which each of the pairs scored thrice at the serve return, finished with a tie-break. However, it did not turn out to be as equal as the previous one: tennis players from Belarus and Mexico allowed their opponents to win only one rally.

In the singles of these competitions, Iryna Shymanovich, having started her promotion from qualifications, consistently beat Jessica Hinojosa Gomez from Mexico (5:7, 6:2, 4:0, refusal) and Carole Monnet of France (6:7, 6:4, 7: 5), but in the 1/8 final match failed to cope with Hailey Baptiste of the US (0:6, 1:6).
