According to the Serbian film director, during that meeting the President of Belarus said that he had sentimental feelings for the Soviet Union period.

“I got it. This is part of my life,” admitted Emir Kusturica.

He said that while visiting Estonia and Latvia, he saw what policies were pursued in these countries, enabling people to forget about the Soviet period.

“I think it’s impossible, because this period – whether some liked it or not – did exist,” the Serbian film director shared his opinion.

Emir Kusturica added, “I recollected the best film directors of the Soviet Union. It is impossible to say that everything that happened in the recent past was bad. We agreed with the President of Belarus that the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia are history, and we must admit there were both good and bad pages in this history.”
