MP on growing dissatisfaction of Polish entrepreneurs with their authorities’ actions
Pavel Oshurik, a member of the Permanent Commission on Economy and Finance of the Council of the Republic, shared his opinion about the growing dissatisfaction of Polish entrepreneurs with the actions of their authorities, noting that a group of Polish businessmen is filing a lawsuit not against the actions of Belarus – which remains friendly to the Polish people – but actually against the actions of their short-sighted government
“It was clear from the very beginning that the decision to close or restrict the operation of checkpoints would and did damage the Polish economy, primarily the business bordering the territory of Belarus. However, what does the discontent of its citizens and the estimated losses of $200m mean for the Polish leadership? It probably means nothing special, since the Polish leaders are promoting the idea of ‘strengthening the eastern flank of NATO’ against the mythical ‘enemy in the face of Russia and Belarus’. Polish entrepreneurs who transported goods through our territory are also suffering from such far-fetched steps," Mr. Oshurik noted.
The MP emphasised, “Our country and our people treated the Polish neighbours in a friendly, neighbourly manner and fulfilled their duties in the field of security, cargo safety and inspection. In response to the readiness for a dialogue and the openness of our borders, the other side expresses a desire to curry favour with NATO partners, regardless of the interests of its citizens. Most likely, in response to the complaints voiced earlier and now, Polish entrepreneurs will not receive a clear answer, and their business will have to be supported by the warmth of candles as a sign of memory of the dying border economy. It would be constructive to restore the ties temporarily frozen by the Polish authorities for mutually beneficial co-operation between our citizens, because ordinary and non-political people will understand each other better.”
