Sasnovich advanced to second round of Indian Wells tennis tournament

Aliaksandra Sasnovich (WTA: 59) made it to the 1/32 finals of a major tennis tournament from the WTA 1000 category with a prize pool of over $8.5m in American Indian Wells. In the first round, Belarus’ third racket defeated the Colombian Maria Camila Osorio Serrano (WTA: 35) – 6:4, 5:0 (refusal).

In February, Sasnovich performed well at representative tournaments in St. Petersburg and Doha, where she reached the quarterfinals and 1/16 finals, respectively, and – most importantly – showed a fairly high level of tennis.

In the first set, until the score was 3:3, there were only breaks. Then the rivals exchanged games won on their serve. However, the end of the match was completely dictated by Sasnovich, who won the ninth and tenth games.

In the second game, the representative of the Belarusian tennis school continued to dominate. With the score 5:0 in favour of Sasnovich, the Colombian athlete decided to refuse to continue the fight.

Aliaksadra Sasnovich’s next opponent will be Petra Kvitova from the Czech Republic (WTA: 31). Aryna Sabalenka (WTA: 2) and Victoria Azarenka (WTA: 15) are also planning to take part in the tournament in Indian Wells; they will start their performances immediately from the second round. Sabalenka’s first opponent will be Italian Jasmine Paolini (WTA: 46) while Azarenka will face Astra Sharma from Australia (WTA: 96).

Ilya Ivashka (ATP: 41) will compete in the main draw of the tournament in Indian Wells in the men’s singles against the German Jan-Lennard Struff (ATP: 58) in the 1/64 finals.

Olga Govortsova (WTA: 165) and Egor Gerasimov (ATP: 148) tried to get into these competitions from qualification but did not succeed.
