Sabalenka reached 1/8 finals of major tennis tournament in Doha

Aryna Sabalenka (WTA: 2) made it to the 1/8 finals of the WTA 1000 tournament with a prize pool of $2,331,698 in Doha. During the 1/16 finals, the Belarusian tennis player confidently defeated the French Alizé Cornet (WTA: 37) – 6:2, 6:2. The meeting lasted only 1 hour and 15 minutes.

The representative of the Belarusian tennis school missed the 1/32 finals as the first seed at these competitions. During the game of the second round, she had no problems to the delight of the Belarusian fans. Having made two breaks in each of the sets and not giving up a single serve of her own, Aryna Sabalenka quickly qualified for the 1/8 finals, where she will meet Gilles Teichmann from Switzerland (WTA: 41).

Meanwhile, two more Belarusians who took part in the Qatar TotalEnergies Open, were knocked out. Aliaksandra Sasnovich (WTA: 61), who started her tournament way with qualifications, consistently defeated Romanian Ana Bogdan (WTA: 101) (6:1, 6:1), Belgian Kirsten Flipkens (WTA: 324) (6:3, 6:2) and Chinese Zhang Shuai (WTA: 66) (6:1, 6:1). Meanwhile, in the game of the 1/16 finals, she lost in an extremely hard fight to Ons Jaber of Tunisia (WTA: 10) (6:1, 5:7, 3:6). Meanwhile, Victoria Azarenka (WTA: 16), after defeating Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan (WTA: 39) (5:7, 6:2, 7:5), was forced to withdraw before her clash against American Madison Brengle due to a left hip injury.
